After a long day of meandering along winding Tuscan roads and sipping the Maremma region's finest vino, a luxurious place to lay your head at night is a must. Thank goodness for Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort - it was my elegant home away from home for three glorious nights. A member of the Leading Hotels of the World and designated the world's finest hot spring spa by CNN, Terme di Saturnia is centered around a rich thermal spring that dates beyond the Etruscan era.
Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort is known throughout Europe and beyond for the healing properties of its sulphurous spring water. During breakfast you'll hear many languages spoken as the thoroughly relaxed guests mill around in their plush bathrobes seeking sustenance at the abundant buffet after their early morning soaks in the pools, Roman bath, or Jacuzzi. Alas, let the record sadly show that I may be one of the few people in the history of the world to visit Terme di Saturnia and not actually have time to experience the healing waters - my schedule was very packed from morning to night with visits to wineries (I'll be sharing details about the area's delicious Morellino di Scansano wine in upcoming posts). However, despite my egregious oversight, the resort has so much to offer that I still had a sublime stay at Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort.
In addition to the spa, thermal pools, and 18-hole golf course, Terme di Saturnia's All'Acquacotta restaurant was awarded with a prestigious Michelin star in 2015. Chef Alessandro Bocci was actually born in the Maremma region and his cuisine infuses local fare with global touches.
Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort general manager Licinio Garavaglia and Michelin starred Chef Alessandro Bocci.
Chef Bocci's Grilled Sliced Beef with Spiced Apple Cream and Red Morellino Wine Reduction was a beautiful culinary composition that showcased the flavors of the region in a very cosmopolitan way.
Located just 2 hours from Rome by car, Terme di Saturnia Spa & Golf Resort is a great option for an upscale and relaxing Tuscan getaway. And, I promise to take a long soak in its famed waters on my next trip there!
