As I flip through the 2014 NYC guide, I am really impressed by the diversity of restaurants. In true New York fashion, the Michelin Guide covers a wide variety of cuisine and goes beyond Manhattan to spotlight restaurants in Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island, and the Bronx. Very user-friendly, the 2014 NYC Michelin Guide can be searched by neighborhood, cuisine, and even has listings for brunch and late-night dining.
I attended the launch party for the 2014 NYC Michelin Guide and was so excited to meet a legendary chef that I've long admired from afar: Eric Ripert of Le Bernardin (3 Michelin Stars, the highest possible rating). His Seared Langoustine, Mâche & Wild Mushroom Salad with Shaved Foie Gras and White Balsamic Vinaigrette was so delicious that I had seconds!
While starred restaurants like Le Bernardin, Aquavit, and Daniel garner special attention because of the exceptional quality and consistency of their cuisine, the Michelin guide doesn't just focus on pricey dining experiences. Restaurants in the Bib Gourmand section highlight the Michelin inspectors' favorites for good value and where for $40 or less you can enjoy two courses and a glass of wine or dessert. For an even more affordable meal, there is also a section of Under $25 restaurants.
Some of my favorite restaurants are listed in the 2014 New York City Michelin Guide and I'm looking forward to following their recommendations to discover some new places. Stay tuned - I'll be featuring those reviews on my site.
