After meeting Chef Reto Mathis, I've added his mountaintop restaurant in St. Moritz to my culinary wish list.
In an absolutely only in New York moment, I found myself at the Central Park Zoo chatting with one of Switzerland's most acclaimed chefs - Reto Mathis. While sea lions splashed around, I schmoozed with the culinary superstar behind La Marmite. A posh St. Moritz restaurant for those with truly elevated tastes, La Marmite is Europe's highest gourmet restaurant and soars at more than 8,000 ft. on a mountain peak in the Swiss Alps.
What lured Chef Mathis off the mountain? He designed the tasting menu for Swiss National Day in New York City. Dear friends invited me to join in this celebration of their heritage, so I dolled up in red & white and spent an evening in the Big Apple enjoying Swiss culture. The menu reflected the regional diversity of Switzerland and included bratwurst, risotto, cheese, chocolate, wine, and pastries. And, yes, there was yodeling!
Representatives from Switzerland Tourism were on hand to offer travel tips and chocolate!
I've never been to Switzerland but experiencing this little taste of Swiss life has me very eager to visit. After all, if Tina Turner lives there it must be cool! And, I certainly wouldn't let a little mountain stop me from enjoying a great meal prepared by Chef Mathis.
