Viña Ventisquero’s vineyards in Chile's Casablanca Valley
So many wines, so little time. I make it a priority to take my tastebuds on a journey even when I can't hop a plane to my dream destination. I recently "traveled" to Chile, courtesy of Queulat wines from Viña Ventisquero. Their head winemaker, Felipe Tosso, was recognized as Chile's best so I knew that I was in for a treat. Wondering about the name? Queulat is southern Chile's most spectacular hanging glacier, a natural wonder that is described as both imposing and elegant.
Queulat Single Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc 2012 ($17.99)
Sauvignon Blanc is one of my favorite varietals - I just adore the vibrancy of this grassy scented wine. A very satisfying sip for these warm summer days, Queulat balances out Sauvignon Blanc's signature grassiness with flirty citrus notes of lime & grapefruit and a nice mineral backbone. A medium-bodied white wine, Queulat 100% Sauvignon Blanc has a great mouthfeel. Sip it alone as an aperitif or pair it with your favorite summer salads and seafood.
Queulat Single Vineyard Pinot Noir 2011 ($17.99)
Queulat's 100% Pinot Noir beauty tantalizes the palate with notes of dark cherry
and fresh strawberries that are balanced with a subtle earthiness, whisper of spice, and gentle tannins. A great match with salmon, roasted
chicken, and spicy Asian cuisine, Queulat Pinot Noir is a versatile wine with pizazz.
