Earlier this week I posted a short list of sparkling wines that are perfect for toasting New Year's Eve but I wanted to put a special spotlight on the phenomenal Nicolas Feuillatte Palmes d'Or Brut Vintage 1999 ($129) and Rosé Vintage 2004 ($138). I must have been a very good girl because I was invited to taste these amazing champagnes a few months ago and they left quite an impression. The first thing you will notice is the dramatically textured bottle - the Palmes d'Or design was inspired by a diva fascinated by black pearls. (Who is that diva, I wonder?) The bottle is truly a stunner and an accurate indicator of the superb quality of the champagne within.
The Palmes d'Or Brut Vintage 1999 is composed of 50% Chardonnay and 50% Pinot Noir and is handcrafted using grapes from 8 famous Grand Cru vineyards. The Rose Vintage 2004 is 50% Pinot Noir from Bouzy and 50% Pinot Noir from Riceys. Both of these sophisticated champagnes are beyond delicious and are perfect for the New Year and anytime you want to serve a bubbly that truly makes a statement.
